The first seminar of “Maths-in-Use” Seminar Series jointly organized by the Department of Mathematics and Research Services Centre of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya was held on the 16th of November 2018 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Science. Promoting university- industry collaborative research was the prime objective of the seminar series.

Mr. E.M.A Bandara, RWP, RSP, MSc(Hydrography), MSc(GIS & RS),BSc Commander (H), CAT ‘A’ Hydrographic Surveyor & Visiting Lecturer, Commanding Officer SLNS Mihikatha was the resource person of the workshop and he conducted the lecture on: Hydrography, Nautical Chart, Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure, and Blue Economy for the “World We Want”.

A seminar on Analysis and Application Basics jointly organized by the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya and Research and Service Centre was held on the 14th of December 2018 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Science. This was organized with the objective of promoting new job opportunities and making the students aware of the postgraduate study opportunities.

Ms. Nishika K. Mampitiya, Senior Advisor- Deloitte Canada was the resource person of the seminar. She conducted her lecture on promoting new job opportunities, postgraduate study opportunities, types of data, analysis projects, value utilization of analysis, static data language concept and information planning.

 

“Prakampana 2018” Arts Festival organized for the first time by the Arts Council of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya was held on the 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th of November 2018 at the premises of the Faculty of Science. The prime objectives of this workshop were to develop creative skills of the students, create a critical view for Arts among the students of the Faculty of Science & other Faculties and establish a fund for the Faculty.

“Prakampana 2018”, themed “Akampitha Hadawath Kampitha Karanu Vas” consisted of several programmes.

An awareness programme on waste management organized by the Zoology and Environmental Management Association of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya was held on the 27th of November 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Science. The prime objective of the workshop was to expand the knowledge and experiences gained by special degree students of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management to school students.

The workshop was held aiming the students of Kirillawala Central College, Bandarawatta Parakrama Maha Vidyalaya, Sumedha College, Gothami Kanista Vidyalaya, Mahamaya Girls’ College and an introduction was provided to the participants on how to manage waste materials according to sustainable methodologies.
