Senior Professor Patrick Ratnayake at the Department of Fine Arts has been appointed as the Chairman of the Art Council of the University of Kelaniya.

This appointment has been made by Cadre Chair & Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. He assumed his duties on the 01ˢᵗ of September 2021.

Senior Professor Patrick Ratnayake is a nationally and internationally renowned scholar specialised in Fine Arts education. He has shown great expertise in arts activities related to Fine Arts. He is one of the most senior scholars in Sri Lankan university setting on his academic discipline.

Senior Professor Patrick Ratnayake is an academic in Film and Television Studies. Further, he has done research on Japanese language, culture and art. He has held the position of Chairman for the Art Council under three vice-chancellors. He has worked hard towards advancing Sri Lankan arts and entertainment industry, nurturing art appreciation and artistic skills of the undergraduates.

Senior Professor Patrick Ratnayake contributed in making the statue of the university's founder and producing the university anthem during the 50ᵗʰ anniversary of University of Kelaniya. His enormous contribution as the Chairman of the 60ᵗʰ Anniversary Committee of the University of Kelaniya has made a memorable anniversary celebration. Senior Professor Patrick Ratnayake is the Former Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya.
