The Centre for Gender Studies (CGSUK) at the University of Kelaniya successfully concluded a two-day residential training workshop on the 10th and 11th of May 2025, focused on strengthening institutional mechanisms to address harassment and violence within the university environment. Held at Laya Leisure, Kukuleganga, the workshop brought together 35 senior academic staff members nominated from each faculty to serve as Inquiry Officers under the university’s bylaws on harassment and violence redressal.

Dr. Ishari Waduwara-Jayabahu, International Relations Manager from University of Waterloo, Canada visited University of Kelaniya on the 07th of May 2025 to explore potential collaborations between the two universities. University of Waterloo, Canada is recognized as Canada’s most innovative university, and ranks high among the world’s top universities in various rankings.

She met Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Senior Prof. Priyani Paranagama, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies; Senior Prof. S. R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of Faculty of Science; and Prof. Madawa Chandrathilake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The discussion was held at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, University of Kelaniya. Dr. Samanthi Jayawardena, Deputy Director, Centre for International Affairs and Ms. Rasangi Gamage, Coordinator, Centre for International Affairs were also present at the discussion. Possibilities of student/staff exchanges, experts from Waterloo University coming to University of Kelaniya, and funding opportunities for research were the main points discussed between the two parties.
