The Ambassador for France in Sri Lanka, Mr. Eric Lavertu visited the University of Kelaniya on the 22^nd of July 2019 to meet the Vice Chancellor, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe and the staff members of the French Unit of the Department of Modern Languages.

A donation of French books was handed over to the Vice Chancellor and the meeting was followed by a discussion about how to improve and maintain links between the French Embassy and the University of Kelaniya.

Present at the occasion were Prof. Patrick Rathnayake, Dean- Faculty of Humanities, Senior Lecturer Dr. Dilrukshi Rathnayake, Head- Department of Modern Languages, Prof. Niroshini Gunasekera, Senior Lecturer Dr. Samanthi Jayawardena, academic staff members of the French Unit, Mr. Jean-Philippe Gavois, Cultural Councillor- French Embassy and officials of the Cultural Section of the French Embassy.
