Applications are invited from the qualified candidates for the above vacancy for a National Research Council (NRC) funded research project.
Project Title
Assessment of species diversity, anti-phytopathogenic activities of crude extracts and in vitro growth performances of marine macroalgae in Sri Lanka
Project Description
This project aims to explore marine macroalgal diversity using DNA barcoding, in vitro screening for anti-phytopathogenic effects of crude algal extracts, characterization of bioactive compounds using LC-MS/GC-MS analysis and to study in vitro growth performances of marine macroalgae.
Qualifications
Candidates with the following qualifications will be considered for the position.
- Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Botany/ Plant Sciences/ Molecular Biology and Plant Biotechnology or related discipline from a recognized university with a First Class or a Second Class Upper Division.
- Followed Chemistry as a subsidiary subject.
- Good proficiency in English (written and speech) is a must.
Prior research experience in DNA barcoding & Microbiology and a special interest in algae research will be an added advantage.
Job Description
The research assistant will be expected to assist in all aspects of the research including fieldwork, laboratory experiments, data collection, data entry, data analysis and results dissemination. This is a full-time position. Applicant should be able to commit with us for a period of 24 months. The research assistant will be registered for an MPhil degree.
Monthly Stipend: Rs. 50,000.00
