An insightful and engaging session exploring the diverse facets of student life in Germany and Sri Lanka was organized by the Centre for International Affairs and the German Section of the Department of Modern Languages on 30th November 2023 at the Faculty of Humanities.
The event featured contributions from students, a special presentation by Mr. Anselm Hartmann, a Masters student from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany on “Life as a Student in Germany - Personal Insights and Experiences” followed by an interactive Q & A session with the audience. Mr. Hartmann has been on an internship at the Goethe Institute and Royal College, Colombo gaining experience in teaching German as a Foreign Languages. Students of BA Honours and BA in German Studies took part in the event.
A presentation on the University of Kelaniya and its history was made by the 2nd year Honours students while the 3rd year Honours students presented a video on “Student Hostels and Life on Campus”. The final-year students made an insightful presentation and a video on the university cafeterias.
The session was followed by a networking meeting with the academic staff of the German section, an enriching tour of the library and university facilities and an informal exchange with the staff and final-year students which provided a rare opportunity to connect, learn, and exchange experiences. It was a remarkable occasion fostering cross-cultural understanding and bridging experiences between students of different backgrounds.
