The Gender Equity & Equality Club, supported by the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Kelaniya, convened its 3^rd Annual General Meeting, a continuation of its dedicated efforts towards gender inclusivity and empowerment.

The meeting was held on the 1^st of March 2024 in the Senate Room of the University of Kelaniya. This gathering served as a pivotal moment for reflection and planning for the club’s future endeavors.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, the esteemed Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. Accompanying her were key figures including Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, the Registrar of the University; Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe, Director of the Centre for Gender Studies; Dr. Sulochani Ramanayake, Senior Treasurer of the Gender Equity & Equality Club, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Gender Studies; Dr. Amila Jeewandara, steering committee member; and K. A. H. N. Karunanayake, Coordinator, Centre for Gender Studies, alongside enthusiastic members of the club.

The meeting was presided over by Isuru Udakara Yakandawala, serving as President, and Tharunya Kalpani, acting as Secretary of the Club. The event also witnessed the appointment of new members to the Executive Committee, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to the club’s leadership.

For the tenure of 2024/2025, the club welcomed Thisali Kariyawasam, a student from the Department of Linguistics, as President, and M. M. Savindu Dishara, representing Development Studies, as Secretary. These appointments signify a continuation of the club’s commitment to nurturing young leaders and promoting diversity within its ranks.
