Presentation of the Radio Survey Report in conjunction with the Centenary of Radio Communication

The Listener Survey Report entitled “samakālīna śrī lānkēya guvanviduliyē samāja vagakīma hā śrāvaka abhilāśa”, compiled under the initiative of the Communication and Media Unit, University of Kelaniya, was presented to Mr. Hudson Samarasinghe, the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, by Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, the Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya,

on the occasion of celebrating the centenary of radio communication on 27th of June 2024 at the premises of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.

This Listener Survey Report was compiled based on the data obtained by a group of undergraduates of the Department of Mass Communication, covering 1000 housing units in 18 Grama Niladhari Divisions with the highest Sinhalese-speaking population in 18 selected administrative districts in Sri Lanka, under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Saman Rajapaksha, the Director of the Communication and Media Unit, and Miss Amali Uthpala Nandasiri, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Kelaniya.

Senior Lecturer Saman Rajapaksha, the Director of the Communication and Media Unit of the University of Kelaniya, Mr. Hudson Samarasinghe, the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Senior Professor Sandagomi Coperahewa, Head of the Department of Sinhala of the University of Colombo, Mr. Sudarshana Gunawardhana, the Chairman of Independent Television Networks (ITN), and Mr. Indika Jayaratne, the Director of Sinhala Service and News Supervison of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, addressed the gathering. The undergraduates who involved in gathering the data required to compile the Listener Survey Report were given souvenirs by Mr. Hudson Samarasinghe, the Director of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.

The event was graced by Mr. Sudarshana Gunawardhana, the Chairman of Independent Television Networks (ITN), Mr. Indika Jayaratne, the Director of Sinhala Service and News Supervison of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Professor Tudor Weerasinghe, the Rector of the Sri Palee Campus of the University of Colombo, Mr. Dharmakeerthi Sri Ranjan, Professor of the Sri Palee Campus of the University of Colombo, Senior Professor Sandagomi Coperahewa, Head of the Department of Sinhala of the University of Colombo, and Miss Amali Uthpala Nandasiri, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Kelaniya.
