Media Workshop on Global Communication, Geopolitics, and Network Theory

The Communication and Media Unit of the University of Kelaniya successfully hosted a media workshop on Global Communication, Geopolitics, and Network Theory, under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Saman Rajapaksha, Director of the Communication and Media Unit. The workshop took place on the 18th of December 2024, at the Auditorium of the Staff Development Centre, University of Kelaniya, from 08:30 a.m. onwards, and was presided over by Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya.
This workshop aimed to make both electronic and print media journalists aware of how the evolving landscape of global geopolitics and communication impacts the nations of the world.
Esteemed speakers included Dr. Manoj Jinadasa from the Department of Mass Communication, who addressed network theory, participatory culture, and global communication; Dr. Thumira Gunasena from the Department of International Studies, who discussed geopolitics and foreign policy; Dr. Saseeka Wijesekera from the Department of Geography, who presented on geospatial analysis in digital social network communication; and Dr. Srinath Dissanayake from the Department of Commerce & Financial Management, who focused on the global economy and digital entrepreneurship. The lectures were delivered to a diverse audience of around 50 electronic and print media journalists, who participated in this esteemed workshop.
Additionally, the event also witnessed the participation of Professor M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Ms. Amali Nandasiri, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication; Mr. Ayesh Madushanka, Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication; and the staff members of the Communication and Media Unit.
