A program of recognition, organized by the Communication and Media Unit of the University of Kelaniya to encourage and appreciate undergraduates who have published the highest number of articles in national newspapers, was held on September 16, 2025, at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The event was held under the precedence of Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, and organized under the supervision of Senior Lecturer Saman Rajapaksha, Director of the Communication and Media Unit. It was graced by the presence of senior journalists, including Mr. Sisira Yapa, Director – Editorial, Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House); Mr. Jagath Kanaharaarachchi, Features Editor, Divaina Newspaper; Ms. Manoli Subasinghe, Editor, Tharuni Newspaper; and Mr. Susil Suraweera, Deputy Editor, Mawbima Newspaper.

During the program, eight students of the Department of Mass Communication from the academic years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 were recognized for their remarkable contribution, with a combined total of 862 articles published in national newspapers. From the academic year 2023/2024, Ms. Prarthana Kodikara, Ms. Sachini Imalsha, and Ms. Ishara Wijeratne were recognized, while Ms. Nisansala Sandamali, Ms. Mallika Hewa, Ms. P. K. C. Malmi, Ms. Nithmi Hansika, and Ms. R. M. H. E. Rathnayake received appreciation from the academic year 2024/2025.

The event was attended by Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Senior Lecturer Dr. Manoj Jinadasa, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, along with the department’s academic staff; the staff of the Communication and Media Unit; and students of the Department of Mass Communication.
