Empowering Future Accountants: Professional Awareness Session at the Department of Accountancy

The Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, successfully organized a Professional Awareness Session- "Unlocking Opportunities: Future-Ready Professional Graduate" to make the accountancy undergraduates aware of the wide range of professional qualifications available in the field of accounting and finance. The event was successfully held on the 25th of February 2025 at the Faculty Auditorium.

The event featured insightful sessions by representatives from several renowned professional bodies. Simultaneously, institutional information tables were set up at the Smart Learning Zone of the Department of Accountancy, providing students with direct access to representatives for one-on-one discussions.

This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional excellence by offering students valuable insights into globally recognized certifications. Representatives from renowned professional bodies—including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA Sri Lanka), Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL), Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIT) and Institute of Analytics (IoA) engaged with students, providing guidance on career pathways, industry expectations, and the advantages of professional qualifications.

The session met with great enthusiasm, as students actively participated in discussions, gaining clarity on their professional aspirations. The Department of Accountancy remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering career readiness, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the financial and corporate sectors.

This impactful event emphasizes the department’s dedication to producing globally competent accounting professionals. With the resounding success of the session, students can look forward to more career-enhancing initiatives in the future.

The event witnessed the presence of representatives from the professional institutions, and the students and the academic and non-academic staff of the Department of Accountancy.
