The launching ceremony of the nation’s first PhD by Publication program, organized by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, was held on the 24^th of October 2024 at the Lotus Tower, Colombo.

This forward-thinking doctoral pathway allows candidates to achieve their PhDs through a series of published works, fostering continuous engagement with academic and industry communities.

The event was graced by the presence of Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies; and Professor Bandara Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies;Professor Sachith Mettananda, Chairman of the Research Council; Dr. W. A. Wijewardena, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka; and Professor Wasanthi Madurapperuma, the program’s first Coordinator.

Dr. W. A. Wijewardena delivered the keynote address, underscoring the program’s role in advancing research that addresses national challenges. Professor Wasanthi Madurapperuma expressed her pride in leading this initiative that empowers scholars to make immediate, impactful contributions to both academia and society.

The event also witnessed the participation of the students and the academic and non-academic staff members of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies.
