Ms. Eranga Gunasinghe, a second-year student who is specializing in Japanese language at the Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya won the award for the best essay in the Japanese Essay Competition organized by Reconstruction Agency for Foreigners, Fukushima-ken, Japan.

Ms. Gunasinghe obtained first place among 870 students, representing 31 countries and regions including China, Taiwan, and Mexico participated in the competition. She received the award from Reconstruction Minister Ms. Shinako Tsuchiyo at the Reconstruction Agency in Tokyo, Japan on the 4^th of December 2023.
