International Mini-Symposium for Undergraduates (IMSU) - 2025

The International Mini-Symposium for Undergraduates, organized by the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on the 1st of September 2025 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya.
The occasion was graced by the honorable presence of Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, as the chief guest, while other distinguished guests included Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Professor Sidath Liyanage from the Department of Software Engineering; Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar; Hon. Sarath N. Silva, former Chief Justice of Sri Lanka; Mr. R. M. G. Senarathna, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs; Mr. Janaka Priyantha Bandara, former Governor of Sabaragamuwa and former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the UAE; Mr. Kithsiri Ananda, Director of INOBSSE Foundation; Mr. Prasika Ambanpitiya, Managing Director and CEO of Navil Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd; Mr. Sunil Thilakawardhana, Director and CEO of the Thilakawardhana Group of Companies; and Mr. Ajith Senarathne, Director of Yorkshire International Sri Lanka. Further, the keynote speech was delivered by Professor Asanga Thilakaratne, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies.
The event also marked the official launch of the LightWisdom web-based Dhamma app, developed by the INOBSSE Foundation under the guidance and consultation of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies and the Department of Software Engineering of the University of Kelaniya. In addition, the Sāradā Journal, published by the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, was launched at the occasion.
Additionally, the event was attended by Senior Professor Ven. Makuruppe Dhammananda Thero, Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, and Chair Professor Ven. Nabirittankadawara Gnanaratana Thero, along with the Maha Sangha; academic and non-academic staff members of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies; and the presenters.
The International Mini-Symposium for Undergraduates (IMSU) – 2025 was successfully coordinated and organized under the leadership of Ven. Naotunne Wimalagnana Thero, Senior Professor in the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, together with Ven. Welampale Rathanasara Thero and Ven. Hedeniye Sumedha Thero, Assistant Lecturers of the Department. Their dedicated efforts, in collaboration with the academic and non-academic staff, ensured the success of this significant academic event, which brought together distinguished guests, members of the Maha Sangha, university administrators, faculty, and undergraduate presenters in a truly memorable and fruitful scholarly gathering.
