The University of Kelaniya Proudly Celebrates a Remarkable Achievement at the 52nd State Drama Festival – 2025

The stage drama “Manushya Puthraya”, directed by Priyankara Rathnayaka, brought multiple honours to the University’s academic community, reflecting excellence across several dimensions of theatrical production, at the 52nd State Drama Festival – 2025, held on the February 10, 2026, at the Temple Trees premises.
Mr Sanjeewa Gunarathna, Lecturer in the Department of Drama, Cinema and Television, was awarded the Best Stage Management award. The Best Music Award was presented to Mr Lahiru Madivila, Visiting Lecturer in the same Department, while Senior Lecturer Wijith Rohan of the Department of Western Classical Culture and Christian Culture secured Second Place for Best Script.
In addition to these individual recognitions, “Manushya Puthraya” was selected among the Final Three Nominees for Best Drama, marking a significant artistic milestone at the national level.
These recognitions reflect the depth of creative scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional excellence nurtured within the University of Kelaniya. From script to stage management, and from music composition to overall production, this accomplishment demonstrates the strength of our performing arts tradition.
