Inaugural Ceremony of the 13th Batch of the Master of Christian Studies Postgradate Program

The Department of Western Classical Culture and Christian Culture of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Kelaniya ceremonially inaugurated the 13th Batch of Master of Christian Studies Degree Program on 09 May 2026 at the university premises. The event marked the commencement of another academic journey dedicated to the advancement of Christian studies and interdisciplinary humanities education.
The occasion was graced by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Sudath Senerath. The Dean and the head of the Department of Western Classical Culture and Christian Culture, and the coordinator for the Master of Christian Studies program, Rev. Dr. Roshan Fernando led the academic procession. The Chief Guest's speech was delivered by Dr. Sunil Wijesiriwardena, a distinguished scholar in Cultural Studies Sri Lanka. Addressing the students he spoke of the importance of research culture and critical thinking. The newly enrolled students encouraged them to pursue their studies with intellectual curiosity, commitment, and social responsibility. Emeritus Professor Shirley Lal Wijesinghe also addressed the gathering, bringing out the importance of higher studies for national future development.
Among the other distinguished invitees were the members of the academic staff of the Master of Christian Studies program, and the lecturers of the Department of Western Classical Culture and Christian Culture. The newly registered students of the 13th batch also participated actively and enthusiastically in the inaugural ceremony. The program concluded with a reception giving the opportunity for the new batch of students to meet with the staff and the undergraduate students of the department.
