Japanese Language Unit Hosts Cultural Exchange Event in Collaboration with the Japan Foundation New Delhi

The Japanese Language Unit of the Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Japan Foundation New Delhi (JFND), successfully organized a cultural exchange event under the theme "Let's Explore Japanese Culture" on 25 May 2026 at the University premises.

The event featured the participation of the Japan Foundation New Delhi team, including Mr Taisei Toyomaru, Mr Ken Yano, Ms Kanako Masuto, Ms Meeli Khuraijam, Mr Rajvir Singh, and Ms Sharon Titus, who facilitated a variety of cultural activities and workshops throughout the day.

The welcoming ceremony was held at the K14-001 Auditorium, commencing with a welcome address by Professor Dilrukshi Rathnayake. The Japan Foundation New Delhi team conducted an interactive Japanese quiz, creating an enjoyable learning experience for participants. The session concluded with a workshop on origami, Japanese pen Calligraphy, Yukata wearing, and Furoshiki cloth wrapping, where students learned the traditional Japanese art of paper folding and created samurai hats. These activities provided valuable experience and deeper insight into Japanese traditions and customs.

"Let's Explore Japanese Culture" was a memorable and enriching experience that fostered cultural exchange, inspired students, and strengthened the long-standing relationship between Sri Lanka and Japan. The program was attended by the academic staff members of the Japanese Language Unit, along with approximately 150 Japanese language students.
