“Chiththaavurthi” Classical Ballet and Intellectual Discourse

“Chiththaavurthi” Classical Ballet organized by Drama, Theatre and Image Arts Unit, Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya was held on the 10th of October 2018 at the Dharmaloka Hall. This event was organized in association with the course unit “Choreography and Stage Performance” which is relevant to final year undergraduates of Bachelor of Arts (special) Degree in Performing Arts.

Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Ven. Dr. Kapugollewe Anandakiththi Thero, Chief Student Counsellor, Prof. Prashanthi Narangoda, Head- Department of Fine Arts, Heads of Departments, academic staff members, Mr. Chandana Wickramasinghe, Mr. Ravibandu Vidyapathi and several veteran dancers graced this event which was held with the objective of developing and appreciating the skills of the undergraduates.

An intellectual discourse on “Chiththaavurthi” Classical Ballet was held on the 11th of October at Venerable Professor Kotahene Sri Pragnakirthi Thero Memorial Hall and the undergraduates who performed at the classical ballet were subjected to appreciation. The quality of “Chiththaavurthi” as an artistic creation was also specially discussed. Prof. Gnanadasa Perera, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Emeritus Prof. Mangalika Jayathunga, Senior Lecturer Mr. Noel Wijerathna, Chief Student Counsellor- Faculty of Humanities, Senior Lecturer Ms. Dulanga Gunarathne, Veteran Actor Mr. Ravibandu Vidyapathi, Doctor R.N.G. Rajapaksha, academic staff members and the students of the University of Kelaniya actively participated in the discussion.
