Faculty of Medicine Excellence Awards 2023 organized by the Faculty of Medicine for the sixth year was held on the 20^th of July 2023 at the Main Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine.

Every year, the Excellence Awards ceremony is held to recognize and reward highly motivated students who perform outstandingly in both the academic sphere and in extracurricular activities, as well as to recognize the commitment, passion and innovation of the teachers and non-academic staff of the faculty.  This year, outstanding achievements of both students and staff of the faculty for the academic years of 2021/22 were recognized.

Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya participated as the Chief Guest of the ceremony while Senior Professor Janaki Hewavisenthi, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine participated as the Guest of Honor.

At this ceremony, students who excelled at their relevant examinations from the MBBS programme and BSc Speech and Hearing Sciences programme were named to the Dean’s List while students who performed extremely well in their academics as well as in extra-curricular activities were recognized with Faculty Awards.  Furthermore, students who demonstrated outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities during their time at the faculty were awarded Faculty Extra-Curricular Activities Tributes (FEAT). Teaching Excellence Awards were given in recognition of academic staff from the MBBS and BSc Speech and Hearing Sciences programmes who excelled in teaching in small and large group settings, student mentorship and student supervision. Extended faculty members who supervise students from the MBBS programme during their third and fourth-year clinical appointments and Speech and Hearing Sciences students during their clinical placements were also recognized for their contributions at the ceremony.  Non-academic staff from three different categories were also awarded Faculty Excellence Awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to faculty activities.

Moreover, Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Chamli Pushpakumara, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Technology and other invited guests from the university were also present at the occasion.
