Appreciation Ceremony for the winners of the IEEE competition

An appreciation Ceremony for the winning students of the IEEE competition was held on the 23rd of November 2022 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Science.

The event was organized by the Department of Statistics & Computer Science, Faculty of Science.

Appreciation of IEEE Global Student Challenge Winners The “Challenge for secure and trusted learning systems” competition was supported by the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA), Industrial Electronics Society (IES), and Computer Society (CS), which allows students to apply their knowledge in Artificial Intelligence, Programming, and web design for trusted and secure platforms, webs, and applications. The competitions were held in three phases while the top 10 teams that entered the final round included countries like India, Sweden, Egypt, South Africa, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka. The final competitions were held on the 14th and 15th of November at Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain. The team ConvAuther, which represented the University of Kelaniya, won second place in the finals. The team members were Mr. D. M. Chandeepa Dissanayake, Mr. C. R. Algama, and Mr. L. M. S. S. Gunasekara, undergraduates from the Department of Statistics & Computer Science and Mr. W. S. V. Lakshan a temporary lecturer, from the Department of Statistics & Computer Science who was the tutor of the team.

Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Ms. A. M. C. H. Attanayake, Head of the Department of Statistics & Computer Science, and all other members of the department participated at this occasion to congratulate and appreciate the winners while the winning team was also present at this proud occasion.
