ICAPS 2025 Successfully Held at the University of Kelaniya

The official inauguration ceremony of the 6th International Conference on Applied and Pure Sciences (ICAPS 2025), organised by the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, was held on the 10th of October 2025, at the A8 Auditorium of the Faculty of Science.

The ICAPS 2025 conference was a cornerstone for researchers in Biological Sciences, Software Intensive Systems, Physical Sciences, and Multidisciplinary research. It attracted nearly 300 abstract and full-paper submissions, drawing academics and industry experts from local and international spheres. With the theme, "Expanding Horizons: Integrating Pure and Applied Sciences for Global Impact," ICAPS 2025 provided a global platform for showcasing the latest advancements while contributing to achieving sustainable development goals.

Dean of the Faculty of Science, Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, delivered the welcome address. Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest. The chief guest addressed the gathering and officially launched the e-proceedings of ICAPS 2025. The keynote address was given remotely by Dr. Janak R. Wedagedara, Senior Pharmacometrician, UK, whose presentation was "From Particle Size to Patient Exposure: Integrating Fundamental Sciences with Model-Informed Drug Development". The Guest of Honor, Professor E. M. P. Ekanayake, Chair Professor in Mathematics from Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, delivered a captivating talk titled "Steadfast Effort and Perseverance Matters in Success". Furthermore, Guest Speaker, Dr. Leonie Vaas, General Manager of Group Sustainability at Hirdaramani Apparel, delivered a talk titled Weaving the Future: Building Innovation and Impact Through Academic–Industry Collaboration.” Additionally, Prof. M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Heads of the departments and Units; Prof. Ruwan Wickramarachchi, Director of the Information & Communication Technology Centre; Mr. K. B. S. L. Wijeratna, Acting Registrar; Dr. B. B. U. P. Perera, Conference Chair; Dr. T. M. M. De Silva, Conference Secretary; Chief Editor; Track Chairs; academic and non-academic staff of the Faculty of Science; and the researchers participated in the occasion. 

The conference day was filled with Plenary and Technical Sessions in parallel venues. Furthermore, this year's ICAPS introduced new dimensions that left attendees inspired. The Science in Nature photography exhibition competition took place for the first time in the conference's history, parallel to the main conference. The Undergraduate Research Symposium and Innovation Exhibition (URSIE) was held for the second time in conjunction with ICAPS 2025.

The principal sponsor of ICAPS 2025 was the Research Council of the University of Kelaniya. Hirdaramani International Exports (Pvt) Ltd served as the gold sponsor of the event, while additional sponsorships were provided by People's Bank (Kelaniya Branch) and Bank of Ceylon (Dalugama Branch), Quality EV, and Salto Industries.
