University of Kelaniya and Bank of Ceylon Strengthen Industry–Academia Collaboration through Knowledge Sharing Session on Digital Transformation

The Center for Technology Transfer & Industry Linkage (CTTIL) of the University of Kelaniya successfully conducted a Knowledge Sharing Session on Digital Transformation in the Banking Sector on Friday, 22 May 2026 at the Faculty Board Room, Faculty of Science. The programme was organized in collaboration with the Bank of Ceylon under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.

The session aimed to enhance knowledge sharing between academia and the banking industry, explore emerging digital technologies transforming the banking sector, strengthen industry–university collaboration in innovation and research and provide exposure to real-world applications of data analytics, AI, and blockchain technologies in financial services.

 The event was graced by Mr Damith Ekanayaka, AGM, Product and Process Development, Bank of Ceylon, as the Chief Guest. The Bank of Ceylon delegation comprised the officials: Ms Thushani Ariyarathna, Chief Manager, Product Development & Innovations,  Mr. Romesh Sooriyarachchi, Chief Manager at IS Audit, Mr Thilanka Pathirana, Senior Manager at Innovation Lab, Ms Sajeewani Jayawickrama, Senior Manager, IT Risk Officer; Ms Shirmila Iddamalgoda, Information Security & Assurance Officer; and the Team Members of the Innovation Lab of BOC; Mr K. R. S. N. Bandara,  Mr W. W. M. H. V. Wijethunga, Ms K. P. K. L. Dias, Mr P. K. I. L. Jayasooriya, and Mr A. S. T. Fernando. The event was also attended by the academic staff members of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya.

The Welcome Address was delivered by Prof. A. L. A. K. Ranaweera, Director of the CTTIL and Professor, Department of Physics & Electronics, Faculty of Science. This was followed by a technical session on ‘Data Analytics & Big Data’ conducted by Mr. Dinesh Asanka, Senior Lecturer, Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science. The second technical session on ‘Blockchain Technology & Machine Learning in AI Governance’ was delivered by Dr. Chathura Rajapakse, Senior Lecturer, Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science.

The Knowledge Sharing Session provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange between academia and industry, particularly in the areas of digital transformation in banking. The Center for Technology Transfer & Industry Linkage (CTTIL), University of Kelaniya, expressed its appreciation to the Bank of Ceylon for their continued collaboration and support under the MoU framework.
