“IGNITRA ‘18” Inter- School Chemistry Quiz Competition organized by the Chemistry Society of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya was held on the 10th of November 2018 at Dharmaloka Hall. The competition was organized with the objective of developing Chemistry knowledge of the A/L students who study Chemistry and attracting students to study Chemistry which is being considered a difficult subject.

Four schools got selected from a test that was held in the first round and the team from Gampaha Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya won the championship of the competition. The teams from Ananda College- Colombo and Bandaranaike College- Gampaha won the first and the second runners up respectively.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Sujeewa De Silva, Department of Chemistry, Senior Lecturer Dr. Shashikala Rajapaksha, Senior Lecturer Dr. Suranga Wickramaarachchi represented the judge board of the competition.

An entertaining programme which consists of a magic show and musical show was held before the final round competitions and at the end of the programme certificates were distributed to all the winning teams.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Rassal De Silva, Senior Counsellor- Chemistry Society, Senior Lecturer Dr. Nadeesha Mathotaarachchi, Senior Treasurer- Chemistry Society including the academic staff members of the department, Chemistry subject teachers of the schools participated in the competition, the parents of the students who participated in the competition, undergraduates of the Department of Chemistry graced the occasion.
