An awareness programme on waste management organized by the Zoology and Environmental Management Association of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya was held on the 27th of November 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Science. The prime objective of the workshop was to expand the knowledge and experiences gained by special degree students of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management to school students.

The workshop was held aiming the students of Kirillawala Central College, Bandarawatta Parakrama Maha Vidyalaya, Sumedha College, Gothami Kanista Vidyalaya, Mahamaya Girls’ College and an introduction was provided to the participants on how to manage waste materials according to sustainable methodologies.

Mr. Amila Gamage, Manager- Engineering & Special Projects (MASS Active Linea Intimo (Pvt) Ltd.) and Mr. Chandana Lansakara, Senior Executive (Health & Safety) were the resource persons of the event.

The event was held under the patronage of Prof. B.M. Jayawardhane, Dean- Faculty of Science, Prof. U.P.K. Epa, Director- Centre for Sustainability Solutions, Prof. G.A.S.M. Ganehiarachchi, Head- Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, Senior Lecturer Dr. V.P.A. Weerasinghe, Senior Treasurer- Zoology and Environmental Management Association, Prof. L.D. Amarasinghe, academic staff members of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management and members of Zoology and Environmental Management Association graced the event.
