“Prakampana 2018” organized by Faculty of Science

 

“Prakampana 2018” Arts Festival organized for the first time by the Arts Council of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya was held on the 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th of November 2018 at the premises of the Faculty of Science. The prime objectives of this workshop were to develop creative skills of the students, create a critical view for Arts among the students of the Faculty of Science & other Faculties and establish a fund for the Faculty.

“Prakampana 2018”, themed “Akampitha Hadawath Kampitha Karanu Vas” consisted of several programmes.

 

In relation to the inauguration of “Prakampana 2018”, a discussion on the ‘Kuumbiyo’ tele drama & current society was conducted Mr. Lakmal Dharmarathne, Director of ‘Kuumbiyo’ and the Veteran Actor Mr. Thumidu Dodamthenna.

An exhibition of the collection of photos and paintings by the undergraduates was held on the 26th of November at the entrance hall of the Faculty of Science and awards & certificates were distributed to the students who presented the best photo and best painting. Ayesha Suraweera of the Faculty of Humanities won the award for the best photo while P. Isad Dinidu Sandaruwan of the Faculty of Science won the award for the best painting. Moreover, a poetry competition was conducted and Malindu Kavinda Kumarasinghe of the Faculty of Humanities won the award for the best poem.

An Angampora show which highlights traditional Sri Lankan martial arts was held on the 28th of November at Dharmaloka Hall.

A cultural performance which depicts singing, instrument playing, acting and dancing skills of the undergraduates was held on the 29th of November in relation to this Arts Festival. The awards were distributed to all the winners of the creative competition

The event was held under the patronage of Prof. B.M. Jayawardhene, Dean- Faculty of Science. Present at the occasion were Senior Lecturer Ven. Dr. Kapugollewe Anandakiththi Thero, Chief student Counsellor, Senior Lecturer Dr. Aruna Wanninayake, Senior Student Counsellor- Faculty of Science, Senior Lecturer Noel Wijerathne, Senior Student Counsellor- Faculty of Humanities, Heads of Departments of the Faculty of Science, academic staff members, Mr. Namal Bandara, Chief Security Officer, non- academic staff members and undergraduates of the Faculty of Science.
