New Head to the Department of Medical Microbiology;

Senior Lecturer Dr. C.N. Badanasinghe was appointed as the new Head of the Department of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. The appointment letter was handed over to the Head by the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe on the 11^th of March 2019 at the Vice- Chancellor’s Office.

Present at the occasion were Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Mr. W.M. Karunarathne, Registrar and Ms. Dhammika Ambegoda, Assistant Registrar- Academic Establishment Division.

Dr. C.N. Badanasinghe obtained her bachelor’s degree (MBBS) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and has followed the Diploma in Medical Microbiology (Colombo), MD in Medical microbiology (Colombo).

Allergy, Immune Deficiency and Auto Immunity are her research interests. Melioidosis associated with Chronic Osteomyelitis and Visceral Organ Abscesses, Exploring Reasoning behind Visual Diagnosis in Histopathology, An Analysis of Antibiotic Sensitivity Patterns of Mycobacterium Species Isolated from 2000-2004, Knowledge on Antibiotic Use and Misuse, and Resistance among Participants who Visited Medical Exhi 2016, FOM, Ragama, Association of Fungal Infections with Chronic Urticaria, Prevalence and Characteristics of Self-reported Antibiotic Allergy among Adult Patients who Presented at the Outpatient Department (OPD), North Colombo Teaching Hospital (NCTH), Ragama were some of her research publications.

She has served as the Co- Chair of Introductory Module(PhaseII) and as the Secretary of Skin and Locomotor Module. She has also won Tissa Vitarana Gold Medal.
