A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Kelaniya and the AFRIEL (Association for Friendship and Love) to provide a certificate course on Participatory Democracy to field-level public employees on the 15^th of August 2024, at the Vice-chancellor’s Office of the University of Kelaniya.

Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, and Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar of the University of Kelaniya, signed the MoU on behalf of the university, while Mr. Ravindara De Silva, the Chairman of AFRIEL, signed on behalf of the AFRIEL.

The objective of this certificate course is to strengthen the soft skills of good governance and to expand the knowledge of field-level public employees on participatory democracy.

The event was honoured by the participation of Senior Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, as the Chief Guest. The event also saw the participation of the Prof. Osantha Nayanapriya, Head of the Department of Political Science; Senior Lecturer Dr. Nadeeka Damayanthi of the Department of Political Science; Ms. Hasitha Jeewanthi, Lecturer of the Department of Political Science; Mr. Ravindra De Silva, Chariman of the AFRIEL; Miss Ishara Maduwanthi, Executive Director of the AFRIEL ; and Mrs. Maheshika Wimalarathne, Administrative Secretary of the VIEW Organization.
