Professor Xu Baofeng Visits University of Kelaniya

The Second South Asian Sinologists Conference and China–Sri Lanka Scholars Civilizational Dialogue was held in Sri Lanka from June 12 to 13, 2025, with the aims of deepening cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and South Asian countries, promoting Sinology research, and encouraging mutual learning among civilizations.

Professor Xu Baofeng, Dean of the Belt and Road (Global South) Research Institute of Beijing Language and Culture University and Director of the World Sinology Center, visited Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Professor M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar of the University of Kelaniya; and members of the Faculty of Social Sciences, on June 13, 2025. The discussion was held at the Senate Room of the University.

The delegation included scholars from Shandong University of Science and Technology, China, and Chongqing Normal University China; two representatives from the University of Dhaka and North South University, Bangladesh; three scholars from India representing Visva-Bharati University, University of Delhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru University; one representative from the National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad, Pakistan; the Director of the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University, Nepal; and the Director of the Traditional Hospital Administration of the Ministry of Health of Nepal.

On behalf of the World Sinology Center, Professor Xu Baofeng expressed sincere gratitude to the Sri Lanka-China Collaboration Association and the University of Kelaniya for their support in organizing the Second South Asian Sinologists Conference. Professor Xu Baofeng looks forward to deepening cooperation and jointly exploring the development of Sinology in South Asia. Ms. Huang Yuting, Deputy Director of the Office of the World Sinology Center; Ms. Qu Yuanmeng, Project Coordinator at the World Sinology Center; and Dr. Kumari Jayasooriya, represented the Centre for Chinese Studies, Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya.
