Senior Lecturer Dr Thumira Gunasena assumed duties as the new Head of the Department of International Studies, University of Kelaniya, on 15 May 2026 at the Department premises. The letter of appointment was officially handed over to Dr Gunasena by Professor Chaminda Abeysinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

This appointment marks a truly significant milestone in the history of the Department of International Studies. Dr Gunasena not only assumes this leadership role, but also holds the distinction of being the Founding Head of the Department of International Studies. Her visionary leadership, dedication, and commitment laid the strong foundation upon which our department continues to grow and flourish.
