Drawing Legacy with Gold: University of Kelaniya Triumphs at Magam Sports Shooting Open Championship 2025

The University of Kelaniya has once again etched its name in sporting history, securing the gold medal in the University Women's 10m Air Rifle Team Event at the Magam Sports Shooting Open Championship 2025, organised by the Magam Sports Shooting Club. The championship was held on 27th July 2025 at the Air Gun Shooting Range of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Security Training School, Colombo.

Representing the University of Kelaniya in the women's team category were Ms. G. P. G. Kavindya Thathsarani Dissanayaka, a 3rd-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies; Ms. Asithma Upendi Dangalla, a 2nd-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies; and Ms. R. A. R. Madushani, a 3rd-year undergraduate from the Faculty of Medicine.

Together, they achieved a commanding total score of 296, securing first place in the university women’s team event and bringing home the gold medal.

Apart from the university of Kelaniya, teams from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), KAATSU International University (KIU), Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), and Saegis Campus participated in the women’s team category and the Silver medal was won by the KDU ‘A’ team, while KIU secured the bronze medal.

Adding to the University’s accolades, Ms. Kavindya Thathsarani Dissanayaka also clinched the bronze medal in the University Women’s Individual 10m Air Rifle category, showcasing her individual precision and consistency.

This remarkable victory marks the second consecutive team title for the University of Kelaniya in the Magam Sports Shooting Open Championship, further solidifying its growing legacy and excellence in university-level sports shooting in Sri Lanka.
