University of Kelaniya Excels at Target Sprint Shooting Competition 2025

The University of Kelaniya proudly secured 2nd place at the Target Sprint Shooting Competition – 2025, organized by the Academic Air Arms Association and held on the 4th and 5th of October 2025 at the Air Gun Shooting Range Grounds of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority – Security Training School, Colombo 02.

This national-level competition, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka, combined endurance running with precision rifle shooting and attracted university teams from across the country.

Representing the University of Kelaniya were Ms. R. A. Rasanga Madushani, a 3rd year undergraduate from the Faculty of Medicine; Ms. G. P. G. Kavindya Thathsarani Dissanayaka, a 3rd year undergraduate from the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies; Ms. Asithma Upendi Dangalla, a 2nd year undergraduate from the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies; Ms. P. G. W. P. L. Ekanayaka, K. H. Kavindu Silva, and Mr. K. P. P. Keerthirathna, 1st year undergraduates from the Faculty of Science; Mr. L. Chiran Rasindu Chadumina, a 3rd year undergraduate from the Faculty of Computing & Technology; and Mr. P. M. Y. P. L. Jayamanna, Ms. H. K. Tharushi Nawodya Nisansala, and Mr. I. P. B. Weerasooriya, 1st year undergraduates from the Faculty of Medicine.

Notably, two participants, Mr. L. Chiran Rasindu Chadumina and Ms. G. P. G. Kavindya Thathsarani Dissanayaka, were recognized in the Best Shooter category, each securing second place in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

In addition to the team’s overall success, 7 participants achieved the Sharpshooter title by scoring above 90, highlighting their exceptional skill and consistency under pressure.

This outstanding achievement reflects the talent, discipline, and commitment of the University’s shooting team. The University of Kelaniya extends its heartfelt congratulations to the team and gratitude to the event organizers for providing this valuable opportunity.
