Undergraduates from University of Kelaniya to Represent FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy (FVLA) 2021

Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU), the International University Sports Federation is the apex body of world university sport.

FISU offers opportunity and inspiration to students around the world to play sport. The health, wellbeing, and experiences that students gain from sport help them become exemplary leading members of society. In keeping with this adage, FISU organises world-class sports and educational events, all with the mission of providing university students with the opportunities to pursue excellence in mind and body. 

The FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy (FVLA) is an educational event that serves as a key part of the international sports and volunteering movement. Over 100 participants from over 90 countries participated for this event. FVLA include conferences, workshops, exchange of experience, cultural exchange, group projects and many more. Ms. H. M. Kawshalya Tharangi Karunaratne, Instructor in Physical Education attached to the Department of Physical Education represented Sri Lanka at the 1st edition of the FVLA was held Kasan, Russia in 2017 when she was an undergraduate of the university. Since then, none of undergraduate of University of Kelaniya did not get opportunity to participate for the FVLA. 

But this year, two undergraduates from University of Kelaniya selected to represent Sri Lanka at the FVLA 2021 edition. This selection was done by Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA) who is the member association and representative of FISU in Sri Lanka.

Ms. Chathuri Hashani, a final Year student of Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies and Mr. Kaveendra Pathirage, fourth year student of Faculty of Medicine University of Kelaniya have been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy 2021. Ms. Chathuri Hashani represent the country for the whole programme of the FVLA and Mr. Kaveendra represented the country in June sessions.

Ms. Chathuri Hashani hold the Captaincy in Basketball (Women) Team for the academic year 2018/2019 and won university colours and SLUSA Colours in Basketball. Mr. Kaveendra Pathirage held the Captaincy in Tennis men in academic year 2017/2018, Vice-Captaincy in academic year 2016/2017-, and won university colours and SLUSA Colours in Tennis.
