Home Care Centre Attached to the University of Kelaniya

A Home Care Centre attached to the University of Kelaniya was declared open by the Cadre Chair & Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya on the 01ˢᵗ of October 2021.

Prof. Ariyarathna Jayamaha, Dean- Faculty of Graduate Studies, Senior Lecturer Ven. Dr. Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero, Director- Centre for Distance and Continuing Education, Senior Lecturer Ven. Dr. Malwane Chandaratana Thero, Head- Department of Sinhala, Cadre Chair & Senior Prof. Rajitha Wickremasinghe, Chairman- COVID Response Committee and Head- Department of Public Health, Dr. R. M. Chinthaka Sanjeewa Rathnayake, Chief Medical Officer- Medical Centre, other academic staff members, Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar, other administrative/non-academic staff members, and Public Health Instructor of Kelaniya also graced the ceremony.

The holiday resort which belongs to the university was replaced with this home care facility according to a decision made by the COVID Response Committee of the university. It was established with the aim of prioritizing infected staff members who are unable to go home or those who do not have the needed facilities for home quarantine.

This fully facilitated centre is a 02 storey building with 05 rooms which is capable of accommodating 10 infected individuals at once.

Initial cost for the building was borne by the university. Initiation of a welfare fund for the home care centre was decided to continue its operation. Prof. Ariyarathna Jayamaha- Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mr. Tharindu Madhawa, Secretary- Welfare Society and Mr. P. H. U. Nissanka, Senior Assistant Bursar- Salaries and Loans Division perform duties as its Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
