Venerable Professor Emeritus Kuala Lumpur Dhammajoti (Poi Cheng LIM) was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature by the University of Kelaniya

at its 137th convocation, held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on 18th of August 2023.

The ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara, Aggamahapanditha Most Ven. Professor Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkitha Maha Thera.

The award was made for, "The exceptional contribution made by Venerable Professor Emeritus Kuala Lumpur Dhammajoti for the upliftment of Buddhist academics, for the betterment of the University of Kelaniya, and for working towards increasing the international recognition of the University of Kelaniya". The award was presented and the citation was read by Ven. Chair and Senior Professor Madawachchiye Dhammajothi, the Director of Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies.

In his acceptance speech, Ven. Professor Kuala Lumpur Dhammajoti briefly addressed the convocation on "The Buddhist Ideal of Transformational Education Inspiration for Modern University Education".

Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Deans of the Faculties, Registrar, Academic and Non-Academic Staff, graduands, and their families graced the event.
