A Delegation from South Korea Visits the University of Kelaniya

A delegation of fifteen (15) delegates from the National Institute for International Education (NIIED), Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea, along with representatives of six (06) major South Korean universities, visited the University of Kelaniya on the 02nd of July 2024. The delegates were received by Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, at the Vice-chancellor’s office.

The main objective of this visit was to enhance international collaboration between the University of Kelaniya and the Republic of Korea through cooperation in higher education.

After a brief visit to the university library, including the library museum, the NIIED team and Korean university representatives engaged in a discussion with the academic staff, postgraduate students, and undergraduates of the university. The discussion was organized by the GKS Alumni Members of the University of Kelaniya, and it was held in the Faculty Board Room of the Faculty of Science. Further, the discussion was graced by the presence of Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, as the Chief Guest, and the representatives of the NIIED, South Korea, as Honourable Guests.

This discussion was based on the possible academic and research collaboration between the Korean universities and the University of Kelaniya. The team from the NIIED thanked the Vice-Chancellor for allowing the University of Kelaniya premises to be used as the test site of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) examination and discussed ways to improve the test site facilities to enable more applicants to sit the TOPIK exam.
