Sitagu Sayadaw Ven. Dr. Ashin Nyanissara was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature by the University of Kelaniya at its 143^rd convocation, held on 21^st of August 2024 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).

The ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara, Aggamahapanditha Most Ven. Professor Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkitha Maha Thera.

The award was made for, "The exceptional contribution made by Sitagu Sayadaw Ven. Dr. Ashin Nyanissara for the upliftment of Buddhist academics, for the betterment of the University of Kelaniya, and for working towards increasing the international recognition of the University of Kelaniya". The award was presented, and the citation was read by Ven. Chair and Senior Professor Madawachchiye Dhammajothi, the Director of Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies.

In his acceptance speech, Sitagu Sayadaw Ven. Dr. Ashin Nyanissara briefly addressed the convocation on “Long-lasting Friendship between Myanmar and Sri Lanka”.

Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Deans of the Faculties, Registrar, Librarian, Academic and Non-Academic Staff, graduands, and their families graced the event.
