143rd General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya

The 143rd General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya was held ceremoniously on the 21st of August 2024 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.
At this convocation, Sitagu Sayadaw Ven. Dr. Ashin Nyanissara was awarded an Honorary Degree Doctor of Literature - “Sahithya Chakrawarthi” for the exceptional contribution made for the upliftment of Buddhist academics, for the betterment of the University of Kelaniya, and for working towards increasing the international recognition of the University of Kelaniya.
Furthermore, it is a remarkable moment that Mrs. Vithanage Lilawathi Asilin Dharmaratne, a 97-year-old scholar, graduated with a Master of Arts Degree during the 1st session of the convocation.
The convocation ceremony consisted of 03 sessions. During the 1st session, 22 graduands of the Doctor of Philosophy Degree, 02 graduands of the Master of Philosophy Degree, 372 graduands of the Master of Arts Degree, and 82 graduands of the Postgraduate Diploma, offered by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies were conferred.
During the 2nd session, 10 graduands of the Bachelor of Commerce (Special) Degree and 520 undergraduates of the Bachelor of Business Management (General) Degree, offered by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies were conferred.
During the 3rd session, 86 graduands of the Bachelor of Arts Degree offered by the Faculty of Humanities, 428 graduands of the Bachelor of Arts Degree offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences, 04 graduands of the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Special) Degree and 02 graduands of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Special) Degree offered by the Faculty of Medicine, and 02 graduands of the Bachelor of Science (General) Degree offered by the Faculty of Science were conferred.
Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Deans of the Faculties, Registrar, Librarian, Academic and Non-Academic Staff, graduands, and their families graced the event.
