University of Kelaniya Becomes First in Sri Lanka to Launch Large Scale Huawei-Powered Wi-Fi 7 Network

The University of Kelaniya has taken a bold step into the future by becoming the first university in Sri Lanka to host a large-scale Wi-Fi 7 network, powered by global technology leader Huawei. This groundbreaking development was officially announced at the Smart University Summit 2025, held on June 20, 2025 at the Goldi Sands Hotel in Negombo and co-hosted by the Lanka Education and Research Network (LEARN).
This next-generation Wi-Fi 7 network, designed and delivered by Huawei in partnership with its local system integration partner N-able, brings multi-gigabit speeds, ultra-low latency, and seamless wireless coverage to the University of Kelaniya. With the backing and technological expertise of Huawei, the university is now equipped with a powerful digital backbone capable of supporting high-density applications such as immersive learning, virtual labs, 8K video streaming, and AI-driven research environments.
While the initiative was technically led and powered by Huawei, the University of Kelaniya played a key role as a visionary partner in embracing this advanced infrastructure to enhance its teaching, learning, and research capabilities. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to transforming higher education through innovation and connectivity, with LEARN facilitating the alignment of national educational institutions with global digital trends.
