156th General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya

The 156th General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya was held ceremoniously on the 23rd of February 2026 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.
The convocation ceremony consisted of 03 sessions. During the 1st session, 116 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree, 15 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Environmental Conservation & Management, 51 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Information Technology, 40 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Management and Information Technology, 47 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Software Engineering, 64 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Environmental Conservation and Management, 07 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, 04 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Management and Information Technology, and 47 graduands of the Bachelor of Science in Physics and Electronics Degree, offered by the Faculty of Science, and 01 graduand of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BET) Honours Degree and 01 graduand of the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (BICT) Honours Degree, offered by the Faculty of Computing and Technology, were conferred.
At this session, Ms Helani Udara Seekkubadu was awarded the Venerable Ratmalane Sri Dharmarama Thero Memorial Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the University of Kelaniya, for obtaining the highest marks for the B.A. Honours degree examinations of the Faculty of Science, and the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Software Engineering. Ms Jayasundara Pathirannehelage Harini Githma Jayasundara was awarded the Mastercard Digital Excellence Gold Medal, offered by the Mastercard Singapore Holding Pte. Ltd. for showing excellence in the Digital Innovation Research Project under the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Management and Information Technology. Ms Jeevaraj Sapthiha Priyatharshini was awarded the Gold Medal for Academic Excellence, offered by the academic staff members of the Department of Industrial Management for showing excellence in Business Systems Engineering under the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Management and Information Technology. Ms Sachintha Abhayagunawardhana Weerasinghe was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Computer Science. Ms Imbulana Badalge Amaya Chamini Imbulana was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Environmental Conservation & Management. Ms Ragavee Mekala Saras Chandran was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Mathematical Physics. Ms Dona Aravindya Diyathini Weththasinghe was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Molecular Biology & Plant Biotechnology. Ms Amal Cader Mohideen Mohideen was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Zoology. Ms Rajaguru Mudiyanselage Bimba Madhubhashini Sathsarani Rajaguru was awarded the Professor C. Dahanayake Memorial Gold Medal, offered by the Department of Physics and Electronics, for showing excellence in Physics, and the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Physics. Mr Buddhima Priya Abeyweera Gunawardena was awarded the Professor H. H. Costa Memorial Gold Medal, offered by the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, for obtaining the highest GPA in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Zoology Degree Programme. Ms Biyagama Thenannahalage Vishmi Gunatilaka was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Sarojini Jayawardane Memorial Gold Medal for obtaining the highest marks in Bachelor of Science Honours in Microbiology, and the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Microbiology. Mr Meegasmullage Tharuka Sandaruwan was awarded the Gold Medal for the Most Outstanding Student, offered by the academic staff members of the Department of Industrial Management, showing excellence in both academic and extra-curricular activities in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Information Technology. Mr Hitihamillage Nihim Nusith Abhayarathne was awarded the Gold Medal for the Most Outstanding Student, offered by the academic staff members of the Department of Industrial Management, showing excellence in both academic and extra-curricular activities in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Management and Information Technology. Mr Wedikkara Arachchige Savindu Harith was awarded the Gold Medal for Academic Excellence, offered by the academic staff members of the Department of Industrial Management, for showing excellence in Information Technology course modules in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Information Technology. Ms Selvakumar Thakshanah was awarded the Gold Medal for Academic Excellence, offered by the academic staff members of the Department of Industrial Management, for showing excellence in Management and Technology course modules in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Information Technology. Ms Ranaraja Pathirana Basnayakalage Nethmi Amaya Senarathne was awarded the Gold Medal for Academic Excellence, offered by the academic staff members of the Department of Industrial Management, for showing excellence in Business Systems course modules in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Management and Information Technology, and the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Management and Information Technology. Ms Pihilikumbure Gedara Sajani Jeewanthi Pihilikumbura was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Biochemistry. Ms Warnakulasuriya Weerakonda Arachchige Dinuki Rangika Fernando was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Information Technology. Ms Waduge Ann Hiruni Shashikala Livera was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Chemistry. Ms Samarakoon Mudiyanselage Dulanji Madushika Kumari Samarakoon was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Statistics. Ms Wallahagolle Gedara Mahesha Pavithrani Dissanayake was awarded the Gold medal awarded by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA in Bachelor of Science Honours in Plant Biology.
During the 2nd session, 20 graduands of the Master of Science in Management and Administration of Ayurveda Institutions, 10 graduands of the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Administration of Ayurveda Institutions, 05 graduands of the Postgraduate Diploma in Kayacikitsa, 08 graduands of the Postgraduate Diploma in Pancakarma, and 81 graduands of the Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery, offered by the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute, and 309 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Degree, offered by the Faculty of Science, were conferred.
At this session, Ms Kariyawasam Bandigoda Gamage Malki Nisha Sewmini Kariyawasam was awarded the Gold Medal offered by the Bank of Ceylon for obtaining the highest GPA in the Bachelor’s Honours examinations of Faculty of Science, and the Professor J. K. P. Ariyarathne Gold Medal, offered by the Department of Chemistry, for obtaining a First Class with the highest GPA for course units in the subject, Chemistry. Mr Meethalawe Aluthgamage Chathura Dilhan Aluthgama was awarded the was awarded the Pandit G. P. Wickramarachchi Memorial Gold Medal, for excels in Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery Degree, and the Dr D. M. Jayasinghe Memorial Gold Medal, for excels in all the Kaumarabhritya course units.
During the 3rd session, 425 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management (General) Degree and 10 graduands of the Bachelor of Commerce (Special) Degree, offered by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies; 11 graduands of the Bachelor of Science (General) Degree, offered by the Faculty of Science; 18 graduands of the Bachelor of Arts Degree, offered by the Faculty of Humanities; and 66 graduands of the Bachelor of Arts Degree, offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences, were conferred.
Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Deans of the Faculties; Heads of the Departments; the Registrar; the Librarian; Directors and Chairpersons of the Units and Centers; Academic and Non-Academic Staff; graduands; and their families graced the event.
