University of Kelaniya representing 3rd FISU World University Netball Championship 2018

3rd FISU World University Netball Championship organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) was held from the 17th to 21st of September 2018 at the Makere University, Uganda. The Sri Lankan National Netball Team which took part in FISU World University Netball Championship for the first time, showed outstanding talents by beating the American University Netball Team scoring 50- 48.

Dananjani Tharuka Rajapaksha, Captain of Netball 2016/2017, a 3rd year student following the Special Degree in Computer Studies and Lakshmi Deepika Kumari, former Vice-Captain of Netball 2015/2016, a 4th year student following a Special Degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution, and both of them from the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya represented the Sri Lankan National University Netball Team.

Mr. H. D. Sameera P. Wijayagunaratne, Instructor of Physical Education, Department of Physical Education, University of Kelaniya participated as the Head of Mission of the Sri Lanka University Team for this tour.

 

The National University Netball Teams from USA, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Kenya representing their National Universities Sports Association participated in this championship. Accordingly, Uganda won the championship beating South Africa at the finals and Singapore team was placed third.
