Swastha Miyuläsi IV: Annual Hostel Program for First-Year Female Students

The Centre for Gender Studies hosted its annual “Swastha Miyuläsi IV” program on the 12th of September 2024, at the Bandaranaike Girls Hostel. The program was organized by Thejani Senathilaka, Director of University Event Avenue, Gender Equity and Equality Club on behalf of the Centre for Gender Studies.

This year's initiative aimed to equip first-year students from all faculties with crucial information regarding sexual health and well-being. Accordingly, the event focused on raising awareness about sexual and reproductive health, and sexually transmitted diseases of the female students.

Dr. Janaka Weragoda, Chairman of the Centre of Prevention for Sexually Transmitted Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, delivered a comprehensive presentation as the resource person. His insights and expertise provided valuable knowledge and created a safe space for open discussions.

Swastha Miyuläsi IV served as a platform to empower students with vital information, promote open dialogue, and create a supportive environment to address concerns and seek guidance. The program reinforces the Centre for Gender Studies' commitment to promoting comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education, ultimately contributing to a healthier and more informed student community.

The event saw participation of key figures including, Dr. K. R. N Harshani, Responsible Person for the Girls Hostel and Director of Kalana Mithuru Sewana; Harshani Kariyawasam, Student Counselor at Kalana Mithuru Sewana; Dr. E. A. D. Anusha Edirisinghe, Founder and Advisor of the Gender Equity and Equality Club and Chair of the Advisory Committee at the Centre for Gender Studies; and Harshani Karunanayake, Coordinator of the Centre for Gender Studies.
