Isimbulana Suyāmaya III: Annual Hostel Program for First-Year Male Students

The Centre for Gender Studies successfully hosted its annual “Isimbulana Suyāmaya III” program on the 10th of September 2024, at the Pagngnarama Boys’ Hostel. The program was organized by Thejani Senathilaka, Director of University Event Avenue, Gender Equity and Equality Club, on behalf of the Centre for Gender Studies.
The event focused on raising awareness about sexual and reproductive health and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) of first-year male students.
The key resource person for the event, Dr. Janaka Weragoda, Chairman of the Centre for the Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka, delivered a comprehensive presentation. His session provided in-depth knowledge on sexual health and the importance of STD prevention, creating a safe environment for participants to ask questions and engage in meaningful discussions.
The Isimbulana Suyāmaya III program highlighted the entre's ongoing efforts to educate and empower students with essential knowledge about their health and wellbeing, fostering a safer and healthier university environment.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Senior Professor Anuruddhi Edirisinghe, Director of the Centre for Gender Studies; Dr. E. A. D. Anusha Edirisinghe, Founder and Advisor of the Gender Equity and Equality Club and Chair of the Advisory Committee at the Centre for Gender Studies; and Harshani Karunanyake, Coordinator of the Centre for Gender Studies.
