The Launching Ceremony of USBUS – Mobile American Space Project

The official launching ceremony of the USBUS – Mobile American Space (MAS) Project was held on the 30th of May 2025 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya. The event was organized by the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Kelaniya in collaboration with the United States Embassy, Sarvodaya Fusion, and LED KLN.
The primary objective of the USBUS MAS Project is to serve as a dynamic platform for undergraduates to enhance their skills and unlock their potential in areas vital for personal and professional growth.
The program featured a series of workshops under key themes such as Leadership, English, STEM, and American Entrepreneurship. The first workshop, titled “Future Focused Leadership” was conducted by Mr. Steven Walter from the Public Diplomacy Section of the United States Embassy on the same day at the launching ceremony. Following the successful launch, additional workshops are scheduled to take place on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2025, continuing the momentum of this impactful initiative.
The ceremony was graced by the United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Julie Chung; Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman of the University Grants Commission; and Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. Also in attendance were the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Senior Prof. Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali; Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, Prof. W. M. C. B. Wanninayake; Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. M. M. Gunatilake; Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Sudath Senarath; Senior Professor Dilkushi Wettewe, Director of the Career Guidance Unit; career counsellors, Mr. K. A. M. Viraj Abeysinghe and Mrs. R. P. A. Minoon Perera; members of the academic staff of the university; undergraduates of the university; and other distinguished invitees.
