Garden Path “Out of the Box” ToT Program at University of Kelaniya

The Centre for Social Reconciliation (CSR), University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Butterfly Peace Garden, Batticaloa, conducted the Garden Path – Out of the Box Training of Trainers (ToT) Program on 22nd and 23rd January 2026 at the Faculty of Science premises, University of Kelaniya.

Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, graced the program with her presence on 23rd January 2026.

Supported by the ACU Higher Education and the SDGs Grant, the two-day program focused on the development and training of healing tools through interactive and experiential learning approaches. The program brought together 15 students representing four faculties of the University and 10 academic staff members, fostering reflection, dialogue, and collaborative engagement. The student participants were selected as representatives and will serve as future trainers, cascading the learning to other students through subsequent training and outreach activities.

During the program, the Butterfly Peace Garden team led by Rev. Fr. Paul Satkunanayagam, Executive Director, and accompanied by his staff, together with Dr Kumudu Sumedha, Director of the Centre for Social Reconciliation (CSR); Dr K. R. N. Harshani, Director of Kalana Mithuru Sewana; Prof. Prabha Manuratne, Director of the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE), University Grants Commission; and members of the CSR Management Committee, met with the Vice-Chancellor to discuss potential future collaborations in peace and reconciliation initiatives.
