A special documentary screening programme under Travelling Film South Asia 2026 was successfully held on the 5th and 6th of March 2026 at the K14 Auditorium, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya.

The event featured a curated selection of thought-provoking South Asian documentaries by filmmakers including Muntaha Amin, Madhulika Jalali, Priyanka Chhabra, and Meghnath. The films explored themes such as memory, displacement, identity, and social change across the South Asian region.

A special discussion session was conducted by Dr Sumathy Sivamohan, Professor of English at the University of Peradeniya, whose reflections encouraged deeper engagement with the films and their broader social and cultural contexts.

The programme was organized with the support of the Centre for Social Reconciliation, University of Kelaniya and the Collective for Historical Dialogue & Memory, with coordination by The Mr Prabuddha Dikwattha, Assistant Lecture of the  Department of Drama, Cinema, and Television.

Among those who participated in the event were Prof. Prabha Manuratne, Director of the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE) at the University Grants Commission; Dr Kumudu Sumedha, Director of the Centre for Social Reconciliation; Dr Mahishi Ranaweera, Director of the Inclusivity Centre; and Mr Pawas Manandhar, Assistant Director of the Film South Asia along with several other academic staff members and students.

The screenings provided an engaging platform for students, academics, and film enthusiasts to experience compelling documentary storytelling while participating in meaningful discussions on contemporary social issues in South Asia.
