A bibliotherapy session, organized by the Kalana Mithuru for students of Peer Counseling Batch 3, was successfully held on 14 July 2026 at the Kalana Mithuru premises.
The resource persons for the session were Dr K. R. N. Harshani, Director of Kalana Mithuru and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Science, and Mr Budhika Jayasundara, Member of Kalana Mithuru and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sinhala. The session was moderated by Ms Harshi Kariyawasam, Assistant Student Counsellor (KMS).
Participants engaged with poems, short stories, and song lyrics during the session.
This bibliotherapy session was important because it introduced therapeutic reading and creative expression as tools for emotional well‑being, enhanced listening and counseling skills, and provided peer counselors with practical materials and techniques to support students’ mental health. The activities fostered empathy, reflection, and group cohesion, key competencies for effective peer counseling.
