The re-opening ceremony of the Medical Center of University of Kelaniya was held on the 08th of November 2019. The new medical center consists of an emergency room, a ward and a lecture hall.

The event was graced by Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya as the Chief Guest. Moreover, Professor Sarath Amunugama, former Vice-Chancellor, Senior Professor Lakshman Senevirathna, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick Rathnayaka, Dean of the Humanities Faculty and Chairman of the University's 60th Anniversary Committee, Cadre Chair and Senior Professor N. P. Sunil Chandra, Chairman of the Research Council, Prof. Ven. Induragare Dhammarathana Thero, Head- Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies,  W. M. Karunarathna, Registrar, Dr. Chnthaka Rathnayake, Chief Medical Officer- Medical Centre and academic and nonacademic staff members participated in this event.
