Investment Week, the annual flagship event of the Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya was held on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of November 2022 under the theme “Reviving through the Economic Crisis: Rebuild Sri Lanka”.

Day one of Investment Week began with the opening ceremony with the participation of Dr. Narada Fernando, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, as the chief guest, Mr. Kanishka Weeramunda as the Guest of Honor, Mr. Ravi Abeysuriya as the Keynote speaker, Prof. Ruwan Abeysekera, Head of the Department of Finance, Heads of other Departments under the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, lecturers of the Department of Finance, committee members of the Finance Students’ Association, undergraduates of the Department of Finance and other special invitees. Following the opening ceremony, the day’s proceedings featured a series of insightful speeches and workshops, starting with the speech of the Guest of Honor, Mr. Kanishka Weeramunda. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of financial technology and its role in transforming the banking sector in the light of his personal experiences. The keynote speech was then delivered by Mr. Ravi Abeysuriya based on Financial Literacy preceding the interactive workshop that was conducted by Mr. Nuwan Chathuranga based on the Colombo Stock Exchange as the final segment of the day. 

The second day of Investment Week was segmented into three sessions. The first session began with the launching ceremony of the Financial Literacy Centre which took place at the notable presence of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Prof. Nilanthi De Silva. The ceremony was then followed by an awarding ceremony for donors who contributed to the Snehaloka scholarship fund, a scholarship fund maintained as an initiative carried out by the lecturers of the Department of Finance towards the welfare of undergraduates coming from financially unsound backgrounds. The morning session then concluded with two workshops that were conducted by Mr. Asokan Pathmanathan and Mr. Buddhi Chandrasena based on Unit Trust and Mutual funds, and Financial Technology respectively. 

The launch of the second volume of the Finance Outlook Business Magazine was lined up as the second session of the day. The magazine that was launched and presented to the Head of the Department of Finance, Prof. Ruwan Abeysekera by the Editor in Chief, was then reviewed by the journal reviewer, Mr. Chaaminda Kumarasiri. 

The third session of the day featured the economic forum that discussed the role of the financial services sector in reviving Sri Lanka from the current economic crisis. The panelists for the forum were, Mr. Dimantha Mathew, Mr. Kusal Jayawardana, Mr. Chandana Aluthgama and Mr. Thimal Perera, and the forum was moderated by Dr. Ruwani Fernando, senior lecturer of the Department of Finance. 

The third and final day of Investment Week 2022 commenced with the grand finale of the Inter-department Debate competition “Lord of the Debates 2022”. The grand finale took place between the teams of the Department of Human Resource Management and the Department of Commerce and Financial Studies, out of which the team representing the Department of Human Resource Management emerged as champions. The latter half of the day began with the grand finale of the Inter-university Finance Quiz competition. The quiz competition was hosted by Acuity Knowledge Partners, under the direction of the quiz master, Mr. Jetha Elvitigala. 

Following the quiz, an award ceremony was held to close Investment Week 2022. The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Executive Officer of the Colombo Stock Exchange, Mr. Rajeeva Bandaranaike as the Guest of Honor for the event. At the awards ceremony held during the closing ceremony, teaching excellence awards were distributed to selected lecturers for demonstrating excellence in teaching and more awards were distributed to appreciate the efforts of the organizers and other undergraduates who had contributed to the success of Investment Week 2022.
