Senior Lecturer Dr. Ruwani Fernando assumed duties as the New Head of the Department of Finance, Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Kelaniya.

The appointment letter was handed over to the Head by the Vice-chancellor, Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, on the 12^th  of June 2023 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

Dr. Ruwani Fernando is an academician in the field of Finance. She has completed a Bachelor of Business Management (Special Degree) in Finance and a Master of Sciences (M.Sc.) Degree in Management from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Finance at the University of Waikato, New Zealand.

Before assuming duties as the Head of the Department of Finance, she held several prominent positions, including coordinator in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Programme. She serves as Editor in Chief of the South Asian Journal of Finance and an Academic Council Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL).

Present at the occasion were Professor Bandara Wanninayake, Dean, Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, Senior Professor R. P. C. Ranjani, Professor Narada Fernando, Professor Susima Weligamange, and members of the academic staff.
