Professor H. A. K. N. S. Surangi was appointed as the Head of the Department of Commerce and Financial Management on the 2^nd of November 2023. H. A. K. N. S. Surangi is a Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Department of Commerce and Financial Management at the University of Kelaniya.

She has more than 17 years of experience as a Lecturer in the entrepreneurship field. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in B Com from the University of Peradeniya with First-class honors and an M Phill degree in Entrepreneurship from the University of Peradeniya. She gained her PhD in Entrepreneurship from the University of Lincoln, United Kingdom. Her research mainly focuses on but is not limited to, female entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial networking, social capital, entrepreneurial learning, and small business development. Professor Surangi’s research interests also span across areas such as ethnic minority and immigrant entrepreneurship. She has published in several indexed journals. She regularly reviews papers for top-ranked journals and currently supervises two PhD students.

Professor Surangi is a recipient of the Best Paper Award, the Vice Chancellor Award for the Outstanding Researcher, and the Outstanding Reviewer Award at several research conferences held nationally and internationally.  Between 2019 and 2021 she was appointed as a  M Com Cordinator at the Department of Commerce and Financial Management. She is the current Director of the Faculty  (Commerce and Management studies) Quality Assurance Cell.
